Special Education in Malaysia: PPKI and Inclusive Education

Understand the school pathways available to autistic students under the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education offers special education through special schools and the Special Education Integration Programme (Program Pendidikan Khas Integrasi, PPKI), where special classes are located inside mainstream schools.

There is also an inclusive education programme where students with special needs attend regular classes, sometimes with additional support. Placement usually involves an assessment and a recommendation from a medical or educational professional.

Visit schools with your child, speak to the teachers and ask about class sizes, staff training and support for communication and sensory needs. The best placement is the one where your child feels safe and is able to learn.
